Those of you who’ve been hanging around Standard since the first year remember how ridiculously tiny the operation was. 30 gallons at a time, I was making beer twice a week and pouring beer only 3 days a week. After picking up some gracious help from Laura #1, we expanded tasting room hours to 5 days a week, but brewing to keep this up required some extra hands. Darren Archer stepped in to work some long hours and take on brewing and taproom duties that eventually made it possible to expand the business into a more typical 7 barrel brewhouse and a more appropriate drinking space for the needs of the neighborhood. He did more than just brewing and taps. When it came time for hard labor, he stepped up and jack-hammered, hauled concrete, and scraped floors. After 2 and a half years of hard work at Standard, he’s moving on to pursue other interests. His contributions have a lot to do with where we’ve landed, and we want to give him some home town thanks for this.
To take his place at the brewery, we are welcoming Matt Petyo. He’s bringing brewing experience from Wildcard Brewing in Redding, CA, and cellar experience from Sierra Nevada. He rocks good taste in music and graphic design skills as well. He’s an all around good dude, and we’d like you all to meet him.
So come on down tomorrow (Saturday, 6/18) from 4-8pm to raise a glass and toast both Darren’s tenure and Matt’s arrival. We’ll be tapping a new beer, but you’ll just have to come down to find out what it is. See you then!
